§ 45.03. Board membership.

  • The historic preservation board shall consist of seven voting members.

    Eligible candidates for the historic preservation board shall be:

    (A)

    At least two members shall be professionals in the disciplines of architecture, history, architectural history, planning, archaeology, or related disciplines, to the extent that they are available; and

    (B)

    All members shall have demonstrated special interest, experience, or knowledge in history, architecture, or related disciplines and as will provide for an adequate and qualified commission, and

    (C)

    Residents of the City of Athens. Nonresidents are eligible if no qualified residents are available.

    Members shall be appointed by the mayor and approved by city council and shall serve four-year terms. For purposes of the first term of the board, three members shall serve a four-year term, two members shall serve three-year terms, and two members shall serve two-year terms. Members shall elect a chair and vice chair, each to serve a one-year term, renewable. The service-safety director shall appoint a board secretary from the city administration.

    All vacancies on the board shall be filled within 60 days unless extenuating circumstances require a longer period. An extension may be given in writing upon petition of the city.
